THE TAO OF SLENDERELLA NEWMAN
Tao is a Chinese word that basically translates in to “way” or “path.”
This has been my way of successfully transforming my body, my health and my life. If my path isn’t your path, keep working to find yours. I promise it’s out there – there is a way for you too.

*Feed Your Face -- Often*
Eat lean protein (lean meats, eggs, fish, whey, soy, etc.) lots of vegetables,
a variety of nuts/seeds, some fruit, a little starch (high-fiber, whole grain varieties)
and no added processed sugars. Don’t skip meals. Eat something every 3 – 4 hours;
even if it’s just a couple of nuts, celery sticks or apple slices.
Keep intake to levels that will keep you from being actually hungry and that support exercise
-- but not body fat.
*Move Your Butt*
Walk, run, bike, swim, or row, etc., hard and fast, five or six days
per week, for at least 30 minutes. If you're not there yet, go for as
long as you can, slow down & recover, then hustle again until at
least 30 minutes.
*Functional Fitness*
Strengthen and stretch your core (yoga, Pilates, mat Pilates,
resistance bands, gym teacher stuff, etc.) 2 - 3 times per week. The
goal is to be able to live the life you choose, respond to unexpected
physical demands, and find joy in play -- all while not ending up
injured/sore/miserable, etc.
*Build Your Dream House*
If the body is the residence of the soul, then you deserve your dream
house! First do the above -- every home requires a solid foundation.
Decide what kind of home you can afford and want to maintain. Are you
willing, ready and able to train, eat, and sleep like an Olympian or a
super-model? NO? Then, that's too much house for you! Know your budget
and limitations -- set realistic expectations. Once your have a pretty
good idea of your dream house -- hire an architect (trainer) for at
least a set of plans to get you there. You can be your own contractor,
or you can hire one.
*Ego And Vanity – Work It*
Let ego and vanity – you know, your “look good” – work for you. Tell
anyone and everyone your goals and plans to get there. Use technology to
auto-post workouts, food diaries, ups & downs, setbacks &
victories to facebook, blogs, email, boards, or whatever suits you.
ACCOUNTABILITY is one of the most powerful tools available to you.
*Be A Psychic Vampire*
Embrace your inner social animal! Connect to others to workout
together, to share food finds, recipes, victories. Join something
healthy – a gym, a walking group, a walk/run charity event, Weight
Watchers, online communities, etc. When you’re in a tough place, use
their energy and commitment to carry you through until it passes, and it
does pass – every time.
*Never Let The Perfect Be The Enemy Of The Good*
Forget the shoulda, coulda, woulda’s!!! If you find something isn’t
working, figure out what does, learn from it and move on. Just drop the
baseball bat of guilt and shame – it doesn’t burn calories or build
muscle. If you’re measuring your insides by someone else’s outside,
you’re headed for a world of pain. If you’re measuring yourself against
an ideal, you’ve set yourself up for failure. Just remember, progress
not perfection . . .
*An Empty Home Is A Sad Thing*
Don’t leave your dream house vacant – you need to tend to your soul,
spirit and mind too. Love fully, completely. Let yourself be loved.
Laugh often and loudly. Forgive, especially yourself – it will lead to
freedom unimagined. Go outside – creation is a soul-nurturing thing,
even when it rains. Be bold every now and again – try new foods,
flavors, places and people. You might be pleasantly surprised, and if
not, at least better educated. Read lots of different things
– even people and things you don’t agree with.
If you know others, you’ll know yourself better.
